Coach Jackson Magera has assumed the role of interim coach for KCCA FC, taking over from Sergio Traguil, whose two-year contract has been terminated by the board. This decision follows a series of unfavourable results, internal team issues, and public criticism that have recently plagued KCCA FC.

Magera, who already serves as the first-team coach for KCCA, returned to Lugogo at the beginning of the 2023/2024 season. The decision to appoint him as the interim coach was reached during a meeting between the board and KCCA FC patron Erias Lukwago, who reportedly supported the board’s choice to part ways with Traguil.

Sergio Traguil’s tenure as head coach faced numerous challenges, including unfavourable results, notably four consecutive league losses to teams like BUL, Maroons, Express, and Kitara. The scores of these matches were 1-0, 2-1, 2-1, and 3-1, respectively. Additionally, KCCA’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup by the Libyan team, Abu Salem, further added to the pressure on Traguil.

Several factors contributed to Traguil’s downfall, including his frequent public criticism of players after losses and the absence of a consistent starting lineup. Reports of a divided dressing room under Traguil also added to the challenges, echoing memories of Morley Byekwaso’s departure, which had a negative impact on the team’s morale.

While some believed Traguil needed more time to establish himself, the pressure mounted as the team failed to secure consecutive home victories, even at their advantageous grounds with artificial turfs.

The team’s recent suspension of goalkeeper Derrick Ochan and midfielder Moses Waiswa was anticipated to ease the crisis, but the situation did not improve as expected. The team is now looking to Coach Jackson Magera to provide stability and lead them to better results in the coming matches.
