Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Museveni expressed his concern and condemnation regarding the renewed violence between Israel and Palestine and called on both parties to implement the two-state solution.
In an interview with New Vision, Michael Lotem, who serves as Israel’s ambassador to Uganda, shared his confidence that Israel would triumph and that this conflict offered them an opportunity to eradicate the Hamas group responsible for the recent attack on Israel.
“The breakout of renewed violence in Israel-Palestine is regrettable. Why don’t the two sides implement the two-state solution? To be condemned, in particular, is the practice of targeting civilians and non-combatants by the belligerents,” President Museveni stated on his socials.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel declared that his country was at war in his first public address following the massive attack. He vowed that Israel would win and emphasized that the enemy would pay a price like never before.
The violence erupted on a holiday when people were resting, launching more than 5,000 rockets and missiles, not only into Gaza but also targeting Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and surrounding areas, according to Ambassador Lotem. He highlighted the complexity of the situation, with Hamas using civilian areas for cover.
Lotem also suggested that Iran was sponsoring Hamas to carry out the attack, aiming to block any peace accord between Israel and other Arab countries.
Israel formally declared war against Hamas following several attacks in which soldiers and hundreds of civilians were killed. This marks the first formal declaration of war by Israel since 1973.
