More than 20 UPDF soldiers attached to the Fisheries Protection Unit have been arrested and charged with various offences related to violations of their code of conduct while on duty.
According to the Fisheries Protection Unit commander, Lt. Col. Dick Kaija, these arrests came in response to complaints from members of the public and the fishing community who alleged that the soldiers were extorting money from them.
A total of twenty-two officers have been charged in military courts and remanded to different prisons, according to Kaija.
He emphasized that there is an ongoing effort to remove misfits from the army to ensure it can fulfil its true purpose.
