West Nile: Several Workers at Arua City Compost Site in Ewuata village, Eruba Parish in Vurra Sub-county, Arua District have expressed their dissatisfaction over what they called “Delayed and Low Salary Payment” and also “Poor medication/health equipment” by their employer (Arua City).
The Standard learnt that Arua City has around 15 workers at the garbage dumping site, with each employee working for 6 hours a day.
Mrs Betty Oleru an employee at the dumping site says even though they have worked for 10 years now, their salaries have never increased from the Monthly UGX 100,000.
She added that it is sometimes delayed to over three or four months before it is paid to them, of which 5000 Shs is deducted for NSSF.

Mrs Irene Draru, another employee at the garbage plant decried the lack of medical equipment and delayed salary payments at their work.
Speaking to our reporter on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, Alfred Amadu the Arua City principal health officer said they usually conduct routine medical checkups of those workers and it is only this year that they have not conducted.
He further cautioned and pledged to the authorities to take action against anyone who is found dumping medical wastes at the garbage plant.

The Deputy town clerk for Arua City Mr Cornelius Jobile acknowledged the meagre salary payment being given to the employees at the compost site but he blamed it on low revenue collection from the City.
On the salary arrears, Mr Jobile said, the system introduced by the government where local revenue is first sent to the Bank of Uganda and later Parliament will approve for its disbursement, is causing that.
