President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, has through the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), donated machines and assorted items worth millions of Shillings to 80 NRM Mobilizers and Pressure Groups across the country.

The handover ceremony for the said items, which was presided over by the ONC head Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, took place on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at the ONC offices in Kyambogo, and was witnessed by journalists, NRM Pressure Groups leaders, plus some ONC-NRM Mobilizers across the country, ONC Staff, among others.

Hajjat Namyalo handed over to the mobilizers items such as sewing machines, welding Machines, ground nuts grinding machines, popcorn machines, spray pumps, seeds and fertilizers for farmers, brick-laying machines, saloon equipment like dryers, clippers, among others.

While handing over the machines, Namyalo said that President Museveni had kicked off a campaign to empower NRM mobilizers and pressure groups across the country, as one of the ways to eradicate poverty from the country, by starting with the loyal cadres of the party.

“I held a meeting with President Museveni last Friday, during which we discussed avenues of empowering NRM mobilizers and one of the measures he suggested was empowering them through starting up income generating projects for them,” Namyalo said.

She added that; “However, he observed that although giving them money as capital (Entadikwa) to start up small business is a good idea, it’s better to give them machines, which will not only enable them earn some income, but also foster an environment for training and skill acquisition, which will in turn create jobs for others.”

“The President noted that instead of processing money for the groups, which would take long to be secured because it involves a lot of protocol, it is better to give the mobilizers these machines, such that they can immediately start working and earning income, as they rally support for the NRM amongst other Ugandans.”

She noted that as NRM mobilizers and party leaders they are not supposed to appear as beggars, but instead be living examples of the empowerment and wealth creation that the NRM preaches.

In her closing remarks, the ONC boss however, also encouraged the mobilizers and pressure groups to utilize government poverty eradication programs, especially the Parish Development Model fund, by using the money given to them to transform their lives, because only then will convince other Ugandans to join the NRM.
