The Police in Namisindwa District, Uganda, are detaining a man identified as Vincent Bwayo, 27, on suspicion of beheading his wife, Justine Wachemba, 23. Bwayo allegedly committed the act on the night of Friday, September 15, accusing his wife of adultery and taking her severed head to the home of her suspected lover, James Musoba.

According to Florence Busikwa, a resident of the same village, she overheard Bwayo shouting accusations at his wife, threatening to harm her if she did not stop cheating on him. Busikwa reported hearing him say, “I will one time cut off your head or your private part if you do not stop cheating on me. Your 40 days will come to an end.”

Julie Namara, the Namisindwa Deputy Resident District Commissioner, confirmed the incident and stated that Bwayo is currently in custody at Namisindwa Police Station. Namara recounted that Bwayo beheaded his wife at the River Salaa bridge while on their way to hand her over to Musoba, a few kilometers away from his home.

Namara mentioned that the wife pleaded for forgiveness, as did witnesses, but it was too late for them to save her from being beheaded. After the act, Bwayo left the body on the bridge and brought the severed head to Musoba’s doorstep before turning himself in to the police.

Wachemba’s remains were transported to Mbale City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Following the incident, individuals believed to be relatives of the deceased stormed Bwayo’s home on Saturday night, destroying property, crops, animals, and setting structures on fire. Security personnel were deployed to restore order, and investigations into the case are ongoing.

Roger Taitika, the Elgon Region Police spokesperson, warned those who attacked Bwayo’s home that they could face arrest. He also noted that Namisindwa District has experienced a significant number of murder cases but did not provide specific figures. Regional security is expected to be present in Namisindwa to address the situation and ensure safety in the district.
