West Nile: Pakwach District Security Committee has passed a resolution banning all sorts of activities on no man’s land in Dei sub-county.

The no man’s land is between the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo along Lake Albert. The place is where mainly the fishing community takes refuge.

Paul Eseru the District Resident Commissioner says the directive which takes immediate effect is aimed at curbing criminal acts in the area.
“They are using the no man’s land to carry out criminal activities, we have resolved in a security committee meeting that all activities in the no man’s stop. You find criminals from Uganda and DRC are all hiding there, so we can’t allow that,” said Eseru.

Lawrence Alithum the LC3 chairperson of Dei subcounty notes that all illegal routes to the no man’s area have been equally closed and no one should risk using them. He says security is already in place to enforce the directives.

The Standard has further established that other People encroach on the no man’s land to carry out activities like farming, and business amongst others and the directive is said to have left farmers most of whom have prepared their gardens for planting super frustrated.
