The Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) has joined forces with Uganda’s Ministry of Health to bolster healthcare services in the Greater Masaka region. This collaborative effort recently led to the refurbishment and handover of the maternity ward at Butenga Health Centre IV in Bukomansimbi district, with the ceremony overseen by Dr. Diana Atwiine, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health.
The renovation of the maternity ward is part of a broader effort that includes the refurbishment of the facility’s laboratory, installation of a digital X-ray system, and equipping of the surgical ward and operating theatre. The emergency care unit has also received upgraded equipment and supplies, along with the introduction of a digital emergency care health information system.
In addition to the improvements at Butenga Health Centre IV, the project has provided four vehicles to support the Community Health Extension Workers program and supplied 968 Village Health Team (VHT) Kits for VHTs in Masaka and Bukomansimbi Districts.
Dr. Atwiine highlighted the project’s significance in enhancing healthcare services across the region. With this upgraded capacity, Butenga Health Centre IV can now handle referrals from multiple districts, including Bukomansimbi, Masaka, Lwengo, Ssembabule, Kalungu, and even Gomba.
The partnership between KOFIH and Uganda’s Ministry of Health aims to improve healthcare infrastructure and services, ultimately benefiting communities in the Greater Masaka region.
