The former ambassador of Uganda to Iran, Muhammad Tezikuba Kisambira, will be laid to rest on Saturday, following the announcement made by the government. The ambassador’s remains were repatriated to Uganda on August 17, 2023, subsequent to his demise on August 4 in Iran, where he had been battling an undisclosed illness for an extended period.
In accordance with the official burial program issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, funeral prayers (Salatul Janazah) were held on Friday at the Tawheed Mosque in Mengo-Kisenyi, in memory of the late ambassador. Vincent Bagiire, the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the body would be transported to Kamuli District for an overnight vigil.
The burial ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 19, 2023, starting from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at his ancestral home in Bulopa, Kamuli District. This information was conveyed in a press statement released by Bagire.
Kisambira held the distinguished position of ambassador, extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Uganda to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Additionally, he was accredited to the Republic of Azerbaijan and several other nations, including Armenia, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and the State of Palestine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hailed Kisambira’s invaluable contributions to Uganda’s foreign service, specifically his role in strengthening the bilateral relations between Uganda and the countries he was accredited to. The ministry commended his patriotic service, diligent efforts, and unwavering commitment.
Prior to his diplomatic tenure, Kisambira played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Kibuli Muslim parallel administration unit in 2009. This initiative emerged after he and his faction lost a court case against the current Mufti Shaban Ramadan Mubajje. Kisambira’s faction accused Mufti Mubajje of improper dealings involving Muslim property. Moreover, Kisambira held the position of the first secretary general at the office of the Supreme Mufti in Uganda during the tenure of the late Zabair Kayongo.
Dr. Muhammad Kiggundu, the director of communications at the office of the Supreme Mufti, spoke about Kisambira’s legacy. He highlighted Kisambira’s dedication to serving the Muslim community and his country, emphasizing his wholehearted commitment.
