The business community in Kayunga Town, Kayunga District, is currently grieving the loss of one of their members, who was allegedly a victim of a suspected ritual sacrifice.

As per Beatrice Ajwang, the Chief of Kayunga District Criminal Investigation Department (CID), a 28-year-old trader Ronald Kalyango was reported missing on Friday. Kalyango, a businessman who operated a wholesale clothing shop in Kayunga Town, was last seen riding his motorcycle to check on his rice garden in Nawandagala Village.

Godfrey Damaseni, a friend of the deceased, elaborated that Kalyango left his home in the morning for this purpose but never returned, leading to concerns about his whereabouts.

Prompted by his disappearance, Damaseni and others initiated a search for Kalyango, scouring the surrounding areas and bushes. Unfortunately, their efforts remained fruitless until Sunday.

Tragically, Kalyango’s lifeless body was discovered discarded in a swamp, exhibiting signs of extreme violence. His eyes had been removed, and certain body parts were missing, fueling suspicions that he might have fallen victim to a ritual sacrifice.

In addition to the gruesome incident, Kalyango’s Bajaj motorcycle was also stolen and had not been located by the time of the report.

The police have indicated that they have taken one individual into custody in connection with the murder. Preliminary investigations suggest that Kalyango had received a suspicious phone call from a person known to him, who expressed a desire to meet him.

According to information from a police source, Kalyango directed a pair of motorcyclists to his location upon receiving the call while he was in his garden. These individuals are believed to be the perpetrators of the crime.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Chief Ajwang emphasized that the exact motive behind the murder is still under investigation.

The deceased’s body was transferred to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem analysis on Sunday.
