He has been the Awitong (clan head) of the Onywal Ipyeda clan and it’s said that they were travelling to Nebbi district for a traditional marriage.
This was the second time the former legislator was involved in a motor accident, in May 2018, he survived death at Karuma along the Gulu-Kampala highway.
Gutumoi was rushed to Kiryandongo Hospital with a fractured right leg. At the time, first responders reported that Gutumoi had survived death by a whisker. However, this time, Gutumoi was not lucky. May the Lord Comfort his family and friends in this trying moment.
His demise comes just one day after renowned businessman Apollo Nyegamahe commonly known as Aponye died in a car crash at Itoojo along the Mbarara-Kabale highway in Ntungamo.
According to the Annual Crime Report 2022, the country registered 20,394 cases of road accidents in 2022, compared to 17,443 cases registered the previous year.
Out of every 100 crashes, 22 people died while 61 per cent of all accidents were the result of reckless driving, the police said.
To curb the accidents, the police said they had resorted to enforcement of traffic laws and regulations through targeted operations, targeting motorcycle taxis and other risk factors such as speeding and drunk driving.
