It was not good news on boxing day for people in Omoro district where an officer-in-charge of Opit police post, Sgt Christopher Okot Bruce shot and killed a 16yr student during a scuffle for a girl in a bar.

In the incident that happened at around 4:00 am on Boxing day in front of Corner House Night Club, Okot who was reportedly drunk intervened to calm the situation but after failing to control the situation, he started shooting killing Emmanuel Olanya instantly before the ‘terrible’ girl and other drunkards fled the scene.

David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region police spokesperson, says that police responded to the scene and recovered two cartridges, and a gun registration number UG POL. 56-131002705-16007 with 24 bullets.

He said that the officer has been arrested and is being detained at Omoro central police station where a case of murder by shooting is being investigated vide CRB 25278/2022. The deceased’s body is lying at Gulu Regional Referral hospital where the injured is also receiving treatment.

A relatively similar incident happened in October 2022 when Police in Mbarara district arrested one of their own drunkards’ Number 55288 PC Vincent Mukundane for attempting to kill his commander in a night shootout.

Mukundane attempted to kill the Officer In Charge of Police Post No.25907 SGT Bonifance Muhoozi, Rwizi regional spokesperson Samson Kusasira revealed then.

“PC Vincent Mukundane at the time of the shooting was from the trading centre drunk and asked SGT Muhoozi to open his door which he hesitated to do and what followed was a discharge of 20 bullets on his door leaving him with serious injuries,” Kasasira said then.
